Every human being is unique - a frequently heard remark. This sits uneasily with the many possibilities that data-driven work, and data mining in particular, offer today.
Privacy and ethics are therefore more important than ever. Data-driven work is not always the right answer for every question. We at Datalab are particularly aware of this. We apply an ethical framework and therefore dare to say 'no' as well: we are convinced that setting boundaries pushes boundaries. A trustworthy partner is one for life.
Others know you better than you know yourself
In everything people do, they leave traces - certainly digitally. With the right tooling, it is therefore not particularly complex to get to know individuals very precisely. These profiles are so accurate that they often predict what someone will do better than the person themselves can. It is therefore all the more important to know when the boundary has been reached. Moreover, data lacks a certain human element. That is why Datalab is convinced that data is not the answer to everything.
When accepting an assignment, we jointly assess which ethical aspects are at play and where the boundaries lie. Not to push them, but to be clear about how far we will maximally go. We are convinced that the discussion alone is already a sound safeguard for ethical conduct.

Datalab's ethical framework
Datalab is aware of the risks and the downside of data. By setting clear boundaries, communicating transparently and always remaining faithful to these ideals, Datalab safeguards the ethical use of data.
We achieve this through our seven principles. They form a supra-legal starting point for the deployment of data analytics techniques: something that is technically possible but conflicts with these principles, Datalab will not promote and/or apply. This ethical framework is based on the recommendations of the High-Level Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence, an advisory body of the European Commission.
