Questions about Datalab
Who is Datalab suitable for?
Datalab works for organisations that are serious about data-driven management. We help teams bring fragmented sources together, define shared definitions, automate reporting and use data every day for better decisions. For specific contexts, we offer Retail Studio, Accountancy Studio, Datalab Society Studio and solutions for finance professionals. For broader data questions, there is Datalab Studio. Get in touch to discuss your situation.
Which technologies and tools does Datalab use?
For BI and visualisation: Power BI, Tableau and R Shiny. For data engineering: DBT, Apache Airflow and custom ETL/ELT pipelines. For cloud data platforms: Azure, AWS, Google Cloud and, where data ownership or location carries more weight, our Sovereign Cloud Dataplatform. Everything runs in Docker containers - making our solutions fully platform-independent and freely portable between clouds or on-premises. We are not affiliated with vendors; you always get the technology that fits your situation.
What makes Datalab different from other data consultancies?
Four things:
1. 100% independent — no reseller agreements, no vendor lock-in, no hidden agenda.
2. The complete journey — we guide the complete journey from strategy and architecture to implementation and adoption, so your team actually works with the solution.
3. Technology and practice — we combine technical depth with a feel for everyday decision-making: data must not only be correct, but also used.
4. No large upfront investment — our data warehouses run on a subscription basis with a clear monthly fee, so you can start immediately.
What does collaboration with Datalab deliver in practice?
Concrete results our clients experience: one reliable source of truth instead of scattered spreadsheets, less manual reporting work (often 80%+ time savings), faster and better decision-making because current data is available, and a team that can work independently with dashboards and analyses after delivery. View our client stories for concrete examples.
What does a typical engagement with Datalab look like?
After a no-obligation introductory call, we map your current situation and goals. Then we create a concrete plan with clear steps. Implementation is iterative - you see results quickly. After delivery, we guide adoption and remain available for further development. Most engagements deliver the first working dashboards within 4–8 weeks. Learn more about our approach.
Can Datalab help with Power BI or Tableau?
Yes. We design, build and optimise dashboards in Power BI, Tableau and R Shiny. Even if you already have an environment that could be better: we help with data modelling, performance optimisation, governance and training your team. Additionally, we provide experienced senior consultants who work on-site or remotely within your BI team. View our full dashboards & BI offering.
Does Datalab also work with smaller organisations?
Yes. Our approach scales with the organisation. Our subscription model makes a professional data warehouse accessible without a large upfront investment - you pay a clear monthly fee and can expand monthly with new data sources or dashboards. You do not need a large IT team; we ensure the solution is manageable and independently usable.
What does a data warehouse at Datalab cost?
Datalab works with a subscription model: you pay a fixed monthly fee for your data warehouse, including management and maintenance. No large upfront investment is needed. The subscription is flexible: you can add new data sources, dashboards or analyses monthly. This way your data platform grows with your organisation, without surprises in costs. Get in touch for a no-obligation indication.
How does Datalab ensure adoption after delivery?
Technology without adoption delivers nothing. That is why we train key users, create tailored documentation, and actively guide the first weeks. We measure whether dashboards are actually being used and adjust where needed. The goal is for your team to work data-driven independently - without ongoing dependency on Datalab. Learn more about our approach.
Is my data safe with Datalab?
Yes. We work in compliance with GDPR and maintain strict security standards. Data always remains in your own cloud environment - we never transfer anything to our own servers. For public organisations and financial institutions, we implement additional measures such as role-based access, audit logging and encryption at rest and in transit. When data ownership, location or jurisdiction is especially important, this connects to our Sovereign Cloud Dataplatform. Learn more about our data solutions.
Can Datalab also deploy on-premises or on a Dutch cloud?
Yes. Because our entire stack runs in Docker containers, we can deploy exactly the same solution on Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, an EU/Dutch cloud provider, or fully on-premises in your own data centre. You lose no functionality - modern data analytics even when data is too sensitive or too valuable for the public cloud. Learn more about our Sovereign Cloud Dataplatform and about choosing a cloud platform.
What is data sovereignty and why is it important?
Data sovereignty means you maintain full control over where your data resides and who has access to it. For organisations with sensitive data - think government, defence or the financial sector - this is essential. Datalab supports sovereign cloud (EU and Dutch providers) and on-premises deployment, ensuring your data never leaves the desired jurisdiction.
