Processing data ethically
Data offers many opportunities, but it also requires clear boundaries. That is why Datalab works from fixed principles for responsible, secure and human-centred data use.
We work with an ethical framework
Datalab is aware of the risks and downsides of data. By setting clear boundaries, communicating clearly and staying true to our principles, we safeguard ethical use of data.
We do this through seven principles. They form a standard beyond legal compliance for the use of data analysis, dashboards and AI: if something is technically possible but conflicts with these principles, we will not promote or apply it.
Our ethical framework is based on the recommendations of the High-Level Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence, an advisory body of the European Commission.
Open source as a starting point
Datalab is a strong supporter of open source software. We use open source technology extensively in our work because it supports transparency, flexibility and independence.
Where possible, we also try to give back to the community. Our engineers are given room to build fixes or features for open source projects that we use or that benefit our clients.
