Financial specialist: get started with data yourself
Datalab delivered a well-attended workshop during the Fizi Annual Event 2023. An enjoyable and above all educational gathering of financial specialists in healthcare. Many attendees asked for a handout of the presentation afterwards. It can be downloaded at the bottom of this post.
As a financial specialist you hold a unique position in the organisation where you work: deep knowledge of the ins and outs of the organisation. Polishing up your knowledge, skills and possibilities ensures that you can get started with data yourself.
...but mind the five musts:
- Reliable data is an absolute must: Datalab ensures that the data unlocked for you is of high quality so you can rely on it. We do this by providing ready-made datasets based on your own data. You only need to choose the visualisation method and period.
- Linked data is a must: insight emerges when your systems can be connected. This means that financial data from the accounts, linked to occupancy data from your client system and time registration, is much more valuable than financial data alone. For example, for a truly good cost price calculation or to monitor efficiency better.
- Simplicity is a must: no pressure on the IT department, no complex new software to learn. You simply work from your familiar environment, for example Excel, or from a handy web interface where in just a few clicks you assemble your dashboard. You are kept informed by email of interesting changes - for example when budgets are (nearly) exhausted, occupancy rises above a threshold you set, or any other indicator. All information available when you need it, in the tools you prefer to work with.
- Security is a must: Datalab frequently works with sensitive (medical) data. We understand how sensitive this data is. Through smart techniques such as pseudonymisation, anonymisation and of course the latest security technologies, security is no longer a point of concern but a given.
- Doing it yourself is a must: Many organisations choose to delegate data to the IT department or specially trained employees. This is actually a shame but perfectly understandable. Data is seen as something difficult, especially when reliability is an important requirement. But consider: nobody in your organisation knows (the financial side of) your organisation as well as you. Insights from non-financial specialists may be lost because knowledge of finance is lacking. That is why at Datalab we say: data-driven work - do it yourself above all.
